2024 Election Candidates: Lawlessness and Extremism, or Safety and Progress
Pro-Public Safety Candidates
The members of Livable Seattle Coalition (LSC) care deeply about the safety of our families, friends and greater community. We believe that public safety is the number one responsibility of our local elected officials and public opinion has repeatedly agreed with us. To this end, LSC has rated the candidates in this off year election for both the City Council race position 8 and for Washington State Legislative District #43, Position 2. In both races, two moderate Democrats, Tanya Woo and Andrea Suarez, offer pragmatic solutions to move the city and state forward, while their opponents Alexis Mercedes Rinck and Shaun Scott present the same tired virtue-signaling to mask their extremist agendas. Tanya Woo and Andrea Suarez are both rated much higher than their opponents for public safety policies.
Tanya Woo Supports Public Safety
Tanya Woo is the only candidate in the race who:
- Supports full funding public safety, both police and unarmed responses
- Supports reforming the Regional Homelessness Authority from the top down
- Opposes rolling back laws allowing the city to remove problem encampments
The Seattle Times endorsed Tanya:
Considering the alarmingly long response times to emergency calls caused by understaffing, rebuilding the Seattle Police Department must continue to be a top priority for the council. Woo gets this.
For the most part, the other hopefuls represent a throwback to previous councils, with positions on taxes and law enforcement that seem out of step with the majority of voters’ concerns.
Tanya’s opponent Alexis Mercedes Rinck supports returning to the failed “defund the police” policies of the past.
Andrea Suarez Supports Public Safety
Andrea Suarez’s track record, as founder of the homeless solutions group We Heart Seattle, is well known by her lengthy track record of cleaning up encampments, getting unhoused individuals into housing and treatment, and making the city safer and more welcoming to all residents.
The Seattle Times endorsed Andrea:
Andrea Suarez would bring to Olympia valuable hands-on experience with homelessness, substance abuse and livability... Suarez represents a solid choice who would ensure debate and dialogue are still part of our government.
Andrea’s opponent Shaun Scott supports returning to the failed “defund the police” policies of the past.
Andrea’s opponent Shaun Scott has been captured plainly stating his extremist viewpoints and policies. Until recently describing himself as a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, he has recently switched to using the Democrat label. While he has moderated his ideas recently in an attempt to conceal his far-left plans, his goals to “bring Socialism to Olympia” are clear, along with his plans to sabotage the ability of police to operate and the state to function.
